Organised by Günışığı Kitaplığı annualy since 2011 this competition is open to middle school students from all over Turkey. Every year a different theme is selected for the stories to be written, some of which are SDG related such as “Love of Nature”. Award winning and short listed stories are compiled as a book and distributed to all schools and libraries free of charge. Encouraging children to express themselves in writing, this competition develops their written communication skills.

As a diamond open-access journal, “English Studies at NBU” is committed to making knowledge accessible to everyone while addressing global challenges. We take sustainability seriously. Our operations are entirely virtual, with remote offices and online meetings, and minimal needs to travel, which reduces our environmental impact. We reach a broad enough audience through our online publications and from 2025, we plan to switch to a “Print on Demand” model, phasing out traditional print runs.

As part of the Princeton University Press’ commitment to environmental sustainability, the Press launched its first issue of the PULP sustainability newsletter, aimed at educating and informing its staff of environmental issues within the publishing industry, as well as the sustainability initiatives being undertaken by PUP, under the guidance of its Sustainability Working Group. The newsletter is an educational tool to bring more awareness to sustainability to the Press’ employees.

UQP made operational changes to reduce and offset its 2023 emissions and become Australia’s first ‘climate positive’ publisher. With independent verification under Climate Active standards, we measured and reduced our direct emissions and purchased more than the required offsets to be carbon positive. The 2023 offsetting schemes UQP used are accredited under the Gold Standard Schemes and Verra Schemes and are all linked to UN SDGs.

KEÇİ is a digital platform prepared by Günışığı Kitaplığı, covering the contents of all the annual publishing conferences and teacher seminars which are being organized on a regular basis since 2010, with the purpose of making this valuable content available for open access in the form of a written digital archive. A wide variety of SDG related topics presented in annual seminars and conferences are also available on this platform.

The sectoral conference, organized by Günışığı Kitaplığı as a social responsibility project since 2011 is supported also by the Turkish Publishers Association. Bringing together all the stakeholders of the publishing industry with new agendas every year, this conference plays an important role in the development of our publishing sector to international standards. The program of the 2022 conference was designed to focus on “Climate Crisis and Publishing Sector” and supported by UNDP Türkiye as well.

Being the first publishing house in Turkey signing the SDG Pusblishers Compact, Günışığı Kitaplığı has committed to adding new books to its catalogue that will increase knowledge and glorify hope in the fight against the climate crisis. With our expertise in the field of Children’s and YA Literature Books, we aim at drawing the attention of children and young adults to these issues through quality fiction books centered around various themes such as environment, climate change, and migration.

Annual, free of charge, teacher training seminars organised by Günışığı Kitaplığı since 2010 hosted authors, academicians and experts from related fields as speakers. Discussing the use of literature books in classrooms through “creative reading practices”, every year four such practices are also being presented by teachers. A climate action related topic is also included in each seminar program to furnish the educators with necessary and correct discussion tools with their students.

Through Wiley’s partnership with Trees for the Future, a tree gets planted for every copy of a journal we actively stop printing. We surpassed our goal of one million trees planted by May 2024. In calendar year 2023 alone, we funded 470,492 trees planted, 376 forest gardens, 376 farmers being trained, and 3,011 family beneficiaries.

Recycle EVERYTHING Month proved to be a triumph!
The Wiley Australia Community & Social Responsibility Committee rallied our Brisbane, Melbourne, and remote teams for a month-long endeavor dedicated to recycling and donating goods.
The result? Over 275lbs of items were collected across all our offices.

In November 2024, multiple prominent scholarly publishers joined together in a call to action for the global community and governments to take immediate, decisive steps toward avoiding climate catastrophe. This joint editorial, published across multiple leading journals, identifies microbe-based solutions to pursue and globally coordinated strategies for implementing them at scale, emphasizing that science must be at the forefront of the global response to the climate crisis.

The International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management from Emerald Publishing published a free-to-access virtual issue on handling extreme climate events and how to prevent their many consequences. It delves into topics such as disaster and risk management, coping with floods and the impact on enterprises.

HarperCollins UK plants a tree for every new starter, working with Trees for Life, a rewilding charity based in Scotland, committed to creating large-scale environmental change in the Scottish Highlands. They plant a tree alongside other native trees that will in time transform open Scottish hillsides into healthy young woodland helping to restore the Caledonian forest.

Saving nearly 200 metric tons of carbon emissions in fiscal 2023 through HarperCollins UK’s transporting of books from Europe to the U.K. by rail instead of trucks.

HarperCollins employees proudly support the Arbor Day Foundation and its mission to plant more trees, voting to fund the restoration of Boise National Forest after the Pioneer Wildfire burned 190K acres in 2016. The donation will plant new ponderosa pine and Douglas fir seedlings for reforestation, benefiting wildlife and future generations. We also supported sustainable forestry in the Amazon Rainforest and Trees for School Forests in Michigan. In total, our donation will plant over 24K trees.
