Celebrating HarperCollins’s 30+ Year Partnership with Literacy Partners

HarperCollins President and CEO Brian Murray accepted the Literacy Leadership Award at Literacy Partners’ annual gala, celebrating 30+ years of partnership with the organization. Brian introduced Viola Davis, Oscar−winning actress, producer, New York Times bestselling author of Finding Me (HarperOne), and founder of JVL Media, as she received the Champion of Literacy Award. The evening, marking Literacy Partners’ 50th anniversary, raised over $1M to support literacy education and advocacy in NYC

New Hires Start at HarperCollins UK with Tree Planted in Their Name

HarperCollins UK plants a tree for every new starter, working with Trees for Life, a rewilding charity based in Scotland, committed to creating large-scale environmental change in the Scottish Highlands. They plant a tree alongside other native trees that will in time transform open Scottish hillsides into healthy young woodland helping to restore the Caledonian forest.

New HarperCollins UK Facility in Glasgow Built with Sustainability in Mind

The new HarperCollins facility in Robroyston, Glasgow, including distribution center and offices, is due to open in 2025 and is being built with sustainability in mind. The site is being built to BREEAM ‘very good’ standard – this means it will be operating to a high standard on areas including energy and water usage, pollution, waste and ecology. Features will include solar panels, rain water recycled for bathrooms, and landscaping that will promote the local ecosystem.

HarperOne Publishes Book by Youth from Girls Write Now

HarperCollins has long supported Girls Write Now, an organization dedicated to empowering underserved youth through writing and mentorship. HarperOne collaborated with the group to publish a hands-on guide to storytelling—conceived, written, and edited by the young people of Girls Write Now.

HarperCollins’s Longstanding Support of Operation Backpack

For the fourteenth year in a row, HarperCollins partnered with Volunteers of America for Operation Backpack. HarperCollins donated dictionaries and children’s books; employees volunteered to fill backpacks with books and school supplies. The bags were distributed to school-age children living in New York City homeless or domestic violence shelters.

Saving nearly 200 metric tons of carbon emissions in fiscal 2023 through HarperCollins UK’s transporting of books from Europe to the U.K. by rail instead of trucks.

HarperCollins UK Partners with Cleanup UK for Litter Pick

25 volunteers from HarperCollins UK joined forces with charity CleanupUK to go on a litter pick at Southwark Park near our offices in the News Building. The team collected 28 bags of refuse, making the park a safer and cleaner space for the local community and wildlife.

HarperCollins Fights Against Censorship and Stands for Freedom of Expression

HarperCollins believes in fostering a marketplace where consumers choose what to read. In response to rising censorship and book banning, we joined challenges to unconstitutional legislation that restricts access to books, including a lawsuit against Iowa’s book-banning provisions of SF 496. Additionally, HarperCollins donated to Unite Against Book Bans, the National Coalition Against Censorship, PEN America, and Little Free Library, and published resources on its website.

Employees volunteered with Chapter One, an online volunteer tutoring program that helps first and second grade students from underprivileged communities learn to read.

HarperCollins Employees Fundraise to Help Feed Hungry New Yorkers

Employees fundraised money to support City Harvest, a nonprofit committed to helping New Yorkers in need by rescuing good food that would otherwise go to waste and delivering it to soup kitchens, food pantries, and other community food programs across the city.

HarperCollins Donates Books to Children in Rural Communities

HarperCollins has donated nearly 180,000 books to Save the Children. The organization focuses on preparing children for kindergarten and helping them learn to read by third grade, particularly for vulnerable children in rural America where early learning resources are scarce. In addition, HarperCollins employees colored bookmarks and wrote notes that were then included with the books we donated.

HarperCollins Employees Vote to Support Arbor Day Foundation tree plantings

HarperCollins employees proudly support the Arbor Day Foundation and its mission to plant more trees, voting to fund the restoration of Boise National Forest after the Pioneer Wildfire burned 190K acres in 2016. The donation will plant new ponderosa pine and Douglas fir seedlings for reforestation, benefiting wildlife and future generations. We also supported sustainable forestry in the Amazon Rainforest and Trees for School Forests in Michigan. In total, our donation will plant over 24K trees.
